(b David Cortez Clowney, 1939, Detroit MI) USA R&B keyboard player. His father played piano and encouraged music studies; Cortez played piano for ten years, switched to organ. Singing with the Pearls, he was offered a contract by Clock Records; his own 'The Happy Organ' was a no. 1 in 1959. He had eight hits on four labels 1959-66; the only other big one was the naggingly memorable 'Rinky Dink', a top ten '62 on Chess. He made an album in the late 1960s with Willis Jackson.
