(b 5 April '40, Dyess AR) Country singer; brother of Johnny Cash. Began as disc jockey on Armed Forces Network in Frankfurt, Germany '60-1, then in Memphis; worked for Johnny's publishing firm in Nashville; wrote "You Don't Hear' for Kitty Wells (top 5 country hit '65). Signed to Musicor Records '65, United Artists '66, Epic '69, Elektra '75, UA again '76, Monument '77, Audiograph '83. Biggest hits: "Six White Horses' '69, "Rise And Shine' and "One Song Away' '70, "I Recall A Gypsy Woman' '73. Stayed busy on show dates with band The Tom Cats; made 25th Anniversary Album '90 on Playback with guests George Jones, Tom T Hall, Connie Smith and Johnny.
