CAPITOLS, The

USA vocal trio, earlier called The Three Caps: Samuel George, lead singer, drums (b c'42; d 17 March '82), Don Storball, guitar (real name Don Norman); Richard Mitchell or McDougall, keyboards; all from Detroit. Prod. by veteran local enterpreneur Ollie McLaughlin, who also worked with Deon Jackson, Barbara Lewis; he met them '62, cut unsuccessful "Dog And Cat'; they broke up but came back later with Storball comp. "Cool Jerk'; released on McLaughlin's Karen label: dance craze/top 10 hit '66, still heard in discotheques. A few more minor hits; broke up again '69. George stabbed to death; Storball was a policeman in Detroit.
