AFTER THE FIRE

UK group formed '77. Peter Banks (b Isle of Wight) formed band on sometime basis '72, Andy Piercey (b Guildford) joined on guitar '74, Ivor Twidell (from Luton) on drums '77. Band released first album on own label, after which bass player left, Piercey moved to bass and John Russell (from Guildford) joined on guitar. Initial major label interest muted due to band's Christian beliefs, thought commercially unviable; but after signing with CBS "One Rule For You' made UK top 40 '79; LP Laser Love '79. did not excite. Twidell left due to ill health '80; third LP Batteries Not Included early '82 dismissed as "easy listening'; unexpected success in USA of '83 single "Der Kommissar' (title cut of late '82 LP) came too late to stop the others leaving Piercey sole original member of group, by now sometimes known as ATF.
