ANDERSON, Liz

(b Elizabeth Jane Haaby, 13 March 1930, Roseau MN; d 31 October 2011, Nashville TN) Country singer, songwriter. She married Casey Anderson '46; singer Lynn Anderson is their daughter. They moved to Sacramento, and she said many years later that there weren't any country stations in that area then, and since she didn't hear any songs she had to write some. She worked as a secretary and had her initial success as a songwriter, with 'Pick Of The Week', Roy Drusky '64; '(My Friends Are Gonna Be) Strangers', Drusky and Merle '65; 'Guess My Eyes Were Bigger Than My Heart', Conway Twitty '66; 'Ride, Ride, Ride', Lynn Anderson '66; 'The Fugitive', Haggard '67. They moved to Nashville when Chet Atkins signed her to RCA; in 1964; she made several LPs and had hit singles 'Mama Spank' '66, 'Tiny Tears' '67, 'Husband Hunting' '70; signed to Epic '72 and the hits fell off, but daughter Lynn's career was taking off by then. She remained a writer at heart, a founder member of the Nashville songwriters association.
