Raised in Pasadena TX, played guitar from age six, won talent contests, moved to Nashville early '60s; recorded for Sims ("How Can I Forget You' '64), Starday ("If Anyone Can Show Cause', "Stronger Than Dirt' '64). Contract with Acuff-Rose; wrote for Roy Orbison, Don Gibson, Roy Acuff, Sue Thompson. On Hickory records '67; had own hits "Don't Worry "Bout The Mule' '68, "Kissed By The Rain, Warmed By The Sun' '69, "She Cheats On Me' '70, "I'm The Man In Susie's Mind' '72, "Daddy Number Two' '73. On Groovy Records '77, then Century 21, comeback with "What's The Name Of That Song' '78, "Love Songs Just For You' '79; label-hopped without much success. Also a painter, specializing in portraits.
