(b Daniel Shipley, 2 May 1945, Dallas TX) Country singer, songwriter; duet team with wife Louise Mandrell (m February 1979). Sang in church; during high school in rock, soul bands; worked club circuit across Texas, then disc jockey and singer in Seattle. Opened shows for Marty Robbins in 1973, who advised him to move to Nashville. Unsuccessful Capitol records followed by work as disc jockey at Smuggler's Inn; writing contract with Warner Brothers Music led to hits for Ronnie Milsap ('Only One Love In My Life' no. 1 country chart '78), Charly McClain ('Women Get Lonely' '80). Signed by Columbia '77; debut LP R.C. Bannon Arrives '78, with sleeve note by Robbins; single hit 'Somebody's Gonna Do It Tonight' same year. Duet hits began with 'Reunited' '79, 'We Love Each Other' '80, LP Inseparable '80. He was arranger and sound engineer for TV series Barbara Mandrell and the Mandrell Sisters '80. Solo hits '80 included 'Lovely Lonely Lady', 'Never Be Anyone Else'. R.C. and Louise signed to RCA '81, scored with 'Where There's Smoke There's Fire' '81, 'Our Wedding Band' '82. Duet LPs Love Won't Let Us Go '81, Me And My R.C. '82, (You're My) Superwoman, (You're My) Incredible Man '83 plus Louise's successful solo career on RCA.
