WAYNE, Bernie

(b Bernard Weitzner, 1919-1993) Composer. 'Laughing On The Outside (Crying On The Inside)' had five hit recordings in 1946, back in the days when every label wanted to record a good song and all the versions competed in the marketplace (lyrics by Ben Raleigh). 'Tropicana' was a hit instrumental by Monty Kelly on Essex in 1953, with the very nice Hollywoodish 'Life In New York' on the flip: one source credits Kelly with 'Tropicana'; others say these were both written by Wayne. He also wrote 'Vanessa', an instrumental hit for Hugo Winterhalter in 1952; 'Blue Velvet' (lyrics by Lee Morris), a hit for Tony Bennett in 1951 and a much bigger one for Bobby Vinton in 1963; and 'You Forgot All The Words (While I Still Remember The Tune)' (with Jay Eve), recorded by Frank Sinatra in 1955; and a lot more: Wayne has 440 songs registered with Broadcast Music Inc.
