YOUNG, Victor (1889-1968, less famous film composer)

(b 9 April 1899, Bristol TN; d 2 September 1968, Ossining NY) Pianist, composer. Studied piano in Paris, toured as an accompanist, worked for Thomas A. Edison and made some piano recordings for him. Nicolas Slonimsky says that Young scored one of the earliest sound films, In Old California (not the 1941 John Wayne movie) and went on to compose 300 more film scores, as well as pieces for orchestra and for solo piano But his fame was completely eclipsed by the other more famous Victor Young.
