WHITE, Joy Lynn

(b Turrell AR) Fiery modern country singer/songwriter on the verge of a major breakthrough in the mid to late 1990s. Born in rural Arkansas but grew up in Mishawaka IN; her father played guitar, she sang in church, performed at family get-togethers, by mid-teens sang rock'n'roll from the back of flatbed trucks. She formed her own band and toured extensively as well as performing jingles for local radio and TV. She moved to Nashville in the late 1980s, working on demos and session singing; signed to Columbia '90 and made country charts as Joy White '92-4. Between Midnight And Hindsight '92 showcased a passionate vocalist with a hot-blooded country style. She failed to make a chart breakthrough with album Wild Love '94; adopted full name Joy Lynn White that year and moved to Pete Anderson's Little Dog Records with Dwight Yoakam guesting on The Lucky Few '97.
