(b Robert William Troup Jr, 18 Oct. '18, Harrisburg PA; d 7 Feb. '99) Songwriter, pianist, vocalist. Staff songwriter with Tommy Dorsey: '(You're a) Snootie Little Cutie' written for Frank Sinatra, Connie Haines and the Pied Pipers '42; wrote, produced and directed service musicals during WWII; '(Get Your Kicks On) Route 66!' and 'Baby, Baby All The Time' hits for Nat Cole Trio '46; settled in Hollywood, played piano/sang in clubs, formed trio, recorded for Capitol, RCA, Liberty, Bethlehem (Bobby Troup Plays Johnny Mercer '55 included 'I'm With You' co-written with Mercer), Decca, Interlude, Mode; issues and reissues on Pausa, Audiophile (In A Class Beyond Compare '58), Star Line (The Feeling Of Jazz). Married Julie London, produced her LPs on Liberty, wrote songs for her. Also acted on TV (NBC's Emergency '71-6) and films (The High Cost Of Loving '58, The Five Pennies and The Gene Krupa Story '59 etc); wrote film songs including 'Daddy' for Two Latins From Manhattan '41 (hit record by Sammy Kaye), title songs for Rock Pretty Baby and The Girl Can't Help It '56, 'The Meaning Of The Blues' for The Great Man '57 (sung by London); many other songs.
