(b James Wesley Voigt, 9 Sept. '40, Westchester Co. NY) Singer, songwriter on the fringes of country. Brother of actor Jon Voigt, from Polish family. Recorded rockabilly for King Records in late '50s. Worked on New York pop scene '60s teaming with songwriters Al Gorgoni and Trade Martin in soft-rock trio. Wrote "Angel Of The Morning' pop hit for Merrilee Rush (later revived by Juice Newton), "Wild Thing' (Troggs), "Son Of A Rotten Gambler' (Anne Murray), "Any Way That You Want Me' (Evie Sands), and country hits for Bobby Bare, Waylon Jennings etc. Recorded for WB in country-rockabilly style making country charts with "Early Sunday Morning' '75; on to Columbia and Capitol, albums well-received without much commercial success: Last Chance 74, Some Of Us '75, Other Side Of the Big River '76 on WB; Saint Sebastian '79 on Capitol; Hit Man '96, The Living Room Tapes '97 on Gadfly.
