STYLISTICS, The

Soul vocal quintet formed in Philadelphia '68: Russell Thompkins Jr, lead singer, with Airrion Love, James Smith, Herbie Murrell, James Dunn. They had big pop/R&B hits '71-3, some co-written by Thom Bell with Linda Creed (incl. often-covered "I'm Stone In Love With You'); in their heyday they were prod. by Bell and were typical of the mid-'70s Philadelphia sound. Ten albums charted in Billboard '71-80, of which the biggest was Let's Put It All Together '74 at no. 14, their only top 40. Albums now on Amherst in USA. They remained popular in Europe; album Some Things Never Change on Virgin UK '85.
