SCHOEBEL, Elmer

(b 8 Sep. 1896, East St Louis IL; d 14 Dec. '70, Miami FL) Pianist, composer, arranger. Played in silent cinemas, in vaudeville; with Friars Society Orchestra in Chicago which later became the New Orleans Rhythm Kings; led own bands; with Isham Jones; wrote arrangements for Ina Rae Hutton '35; chief arr. for Warner Brothers music publishing in NYC '35-45. He invented and manufactured a "tunematic' radio early '30s, but mainly he was one of the first composers/arrangers in jazz, preparing works of King Oliver, Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton for publication, writing or co-writing classics "Farewell Blues', "Bugle Call Rag', "Prince Of Wails', "Nobody's Sweetheart', "House Of David Blues', others.
