SINATRA, Nancy

(b Nancy Sandra Sinatra, 7 June '40, Jersey City NJ) Frank Sinatra's daughter's career as a pop singer began '65, the year she divorced Tommy Sands. After several flops she was helped by songwriter/producer Lee Hazlewood to six top 40 hits '66--7, incl. huge no. 1 'These Boots Are Made For Walkin''. Sang title theme for father's movie Tony Rome '67; also had no. 1 hit duet with him 'Somethin' Stupid' '67; made duets with Hazlewood. Nine albums charted '66--9 incl. Nancy And Lee and Movin' With Nancy (TV soundtrack with her father, Dean Martin and Hazlewood). When she broke with Hazlewood her career evaporated, though duets with Mel Tillis made country charts '81. She opened for her father on a tour '82; she also made several films, but was later candid about her acting ability in her book Frank Sinatra: My Father '85, which was followed by Frank Sinatra: An American Legend '95, both books lavishly illustrated. She posed in the May '95 issue of Playboy, trying to restart musical career; it didn't work.
