BALL, Kenny

(b 22 May 1931, Ilford, Essex, UK; d 7 March 2013, Basildon) UK jazz trumpet, bandleader. He had his own band with a dixieland lineup late '58; Kenny Ball and his Jazzmen appeared at the Albert Hall, London (Festival of Jazz) and made their TV debut '59; toured Continent, signed record contract, did well in the UK trad fad of the period and retained fans for decades. Fourteen singles charted in UK '62-7, including three top tens; 'Midnight In Moscow' also reached no. 2 in USA. A Golden Hits album charted in the UK '63.
