RICE, Bobby

(b 11 July '44, Boscobel WI) Country/pop singer with solo success late '70s following many years as member of family group. Raised on a farm; began in rock'n'roll but with four sisters and a brother formed group running dance hall programme called Circle D, by mid-'50s had own show on WRCO Richmond VA. Two sisters married '64; Bobby teamed with Lorraine in duo, went solo '68, forming Bobby Rice band, signing with Royal American Records '69: first chart hit was "Sugar Shack' '70, followed by several more through '70s incl. top 5 "You Lay So Easy On My Mind' '73, then on label-hopped but never returned to top ten.
