RUSSELL, Tom

Contemporary singer-songwriter and travelling troubadour from California. Wrote 'End Of The Trail' while working in Canada, gained early acclaim; worked the singer-songwriter clubs around Boston; moved to Austin mid-'70s and formed duo with pianist Patricia Hardin for a couple of obscure albums; went to Puerto Rico. Won Texas talent contest that led to trip to New York where he worked for a time; debut album Heart On A Sleeve '84 on his own Trail Music; teamed with Andrew Hardin working extensively in Europe, where he gained cult following due to extensive touring and easy availability of recordings. Co-wrote 'Navajo Rug' with Ian Tyson, Canadian Country Music Association's Single of the Year '87 and title track of a Jerry Jeff Walker album; has also worked as co- writer with Steve Young, Katy Moffatt etc; other songs covered by Johnny Cash, Suzy Bogguss, Nanci Griffith etc leading to further exposure for his own recordings; working either solo or with Tom Russell Band he is rarely off the road.
