QUATRES ETOILES, Les

One of the first African supergroups, formed Paris '83 by bassist Bopol, guitarist Syran, vocalists Nyboma and Wuta May (b Blaise Pasco Wuta May), having established themselves as leading Zairian musicians: LPs Enfant Bamileke '84, Dance '85. All became stars in Africa '70s: Wuta May had solo albums Tshitsha, Le Beach, Tout Mal Se Paie Ici Bas. Nyboma began with Orchestre Baby National '69, then Negro Success, others; formed Les Kamales '73, had hit 'Kamale' in Zaire; to Togo '79, joined Sam Mangwana and the African All Stars; to Abidjan '81, hit 'Double Double' and LP of same name '83; to Paris '82, second solo LP Bandona '84. Bopol played with Afrisa International, others; made own LPs Manuela, Deception Motema, Marriage Force, Samedi Soir, €a C'est Quoi. Syran is a sought-after session guitarist, played with African All Stars (solo on Mangwana's 'Maria Tebbo'), solo LPs Kouame and Ilanga. Tour with Mose Fan Fan '95; albums Souffrance, Sangonini then Adama Coly '95 on Lusafrica.
