He settled in New York early '60s, first recorded with Lou Donaldson '62, then under his own name. Influenced by pianists, his organ style is subtler than some; of nine albums '63-9, Grant Green played guitar on the first six (Let 'Em Roll '65 was reissued '93); then there was a long gap until the quintet album Soul Connection '83 on Nilva. This One's For JA '95 on DIW had a quintet incl. Dave Hubbard on tenor sax, tunes by Coltrane, Shorter and Shepp mutated to soul jazz. |
