PRUETT, Jeanne

(b Norma Jean Bowman, 30 Jan. '37, Pell City OK) Country singer- songwriter who made initial impact as writer, hits for Marty Robbins ("Count Me Out'), others. Sang with brothers and sisters; married Jack Pruett '53, went to Nashville where he became Robbins' lead guitarist for nearly 20 years. For a while she was busy with the children, but Robbins not only recorded about a dozen of her songs but signed her to his publishing company, helped get her RCA contract '63: six titles but no hits; for some years she concentrated on writing, signed with Decca '69 and made chart debut with "Hold On To My Unchanging Love' '71, further hits incl. no. 1 "Satin Sheets' '73. Moved to Mercury, but luck changed; to small IBC Records and major chart comeback with "Back To Back' and "Temporarily Yours' '80, "It's Too Late' '81. Continued touring regularly and built up following in UK with regular Wembley appearances.
