On WHIL Miami's Old Southern Jamboree '55; Mel Tillis helped him make move to Nashville '57; wrote Webb Pierce's "Falling Back To You ''58 and signed to Columbia same year; duet hit with Mel Tillis "Sawmill' '59; joined Opry '60 and signed to Decca '62; Dolly Parton sang back-up vocals on "Put It Off Until Tomorrow' and "The Company You Keep', both her songs and top 10 country hits '66. He'd written hits for Kitty Wells and joined her road show '69; moved to United Artists '71, then continued through Soundwaves, Tanglewood, etc with minor hits to '79; appeared in films Road To Nashville '67, Second Fiddle To A Steel Guitar '68, The Sugarland Express '74. Albums incl. Put It Off Until Tomorrow '66, Country Action '68, Little Boy Sad '70 all on Decca.
