NAYLOR, Jerry

(b 6 March '39, Stephenville TX) Country singer and disc jockey. Formed band early '50s, appeared on Louisiana Hayride '54, worked shows with Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Johnny Horton. He worked as a disc jockey, studied electronics, joined US Army '57 and was stationed in Germany; recorded for some small Texas labels and met Glen Campbell, heading for West Coast with him; more disc jockey work '60. Joined Crickets '61, replacing Joe B. Maudlin, worked with them off and on for four years, often taking lead vocals. Went solo mid-'60s, recording for Tower, Columbia, MGM; had minor pop hit "But For Love' on Columbia '70; moved into country '74 on Melodyland label and hosted Continental Country Show on KLAC in L.A., named Best Syndicated Country Music Show by Billboard '73-4. Made country charts with "Is This All There Is To A Honky Tonk?', "The Last Time You Love Me', "If You Don't Want To Love Her' '75-8; recorded for WB '79, Jeremiah '80-2.
