MALONE, J.J.

(b 1935, Alabama; d February 20, 2004, Hawaii) Blues/R&B singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who had a career mainly on the West Coast. He was a fine piano player, a fast, creative guitarist, and a good entertainer. Galaxy, which was mainly a jazz label, also put out R&B singles in the 1960s and early '70s; Malone's ‘It's A Shame’ was something of a hit in 1972, reissued on the compilation Bad, Bad Whiskey (The Galaxy Masters) in 1994. Malone's albums include Highway 99 ’97 and See Me In The Mornin' ‘99, including a reprise of the hit, both on Fedora; and And The Band Played On 2004 on Blues Express.
