First Flight Out '94 with Tom Harrell, then Come Play With Me '95 on Arabesque were quartet sessions showing him still in his prime, obviously happy to have the superb Mulgrew Miller on piano on the latter. Live At Vartan Jazz '96 on Vartan Tonoian's label in Denver CO was his first live recording since the '60s, a delight with Valery Ponomarev on trumpet, the rhythm section including his son Chuck McPherson on drums.
