MACK, Warner

(b Warner McPherson, 2 April '38, Nashville TN) Country singer, songwriter who had 14 consecutive top ten hits in '60s. Grew up in Vicksburg MS; worked for a tyre company and as radio announcer on WVIM Vicksburg before landing regular spot on Louisiana Hayride and contract with Decca '57: 'Is It Wrong' went top ten country and stayed in chart for 36 weeks. Further chart success eluded him for the time being, though he wrote hits for others; then '64--70 had his own hits with 'Sittin' In An All Nite Cafe', 'The Bridge Washed Out', 'Talking To The Wall', 'Drifting Apart', 'Leave My Dreams Alone', 'Love Hungry', etc. Faded from charts in '70s, concentrated on writing and running his Country Store in Madison. Continued recording for MCA, then Pageboy; toured UK early '80s.
