(b 28 Sep. '33, Maud TX) Country singer popular in '50s- 60s. Began at Big D Jamboree, Dallas '52-4; teamed with Jimmy Lee for duets on Chess, Talent and D Records: Jimmy & Johnny made C&W top 10 with "If You Don't Somebody Else Will' '54 on Chess. Recorded solo for Decca, UA and Little Darlin', made chart with "Please talk To My Heart' '63 on UA. A fairly prolific songwriter, his work recorded by Johnny Paycheck, George Jones, Webb Pierce, etc.
