(b Katherine Louella Moffatt, 19 Nov. '50, Fort Worth TX) Cutting-edge country singer, songwriter, guitarist. Sister of Hugh Moffatt, made professional debut in Fort Worth coffee houses in her teens; landed singing role in movie Black Jack '69; worked in TV production in Corpus Christi, sang with a blues band weekends. Moved to Denver '73, on local radio station; signed to Columbia '75 and a minor country hit was prod. by Billy Sherrill, but she was playing mainly rock venues, working shows with Warren Zevon, Muddy Waters etc. Her second album Kissin' In The California Sun '77 was promoted to the rock audience; sang backup for various singers incl. Michael Martin Murphey, Tanya Tucker, Hoxt Axton, etc; sang on soundtrack of Hard Country '80 and appeared in Take It As It Comes (duet with Murphey from film made country charts '81). Signed with Permian '83 for minor country hits, followed her brother to Philo/Rounder '87 and found her recording home. She was featured in films Honeymoon In Las Vegas and The Thing Called Love; tours regularly in Europe. Other albums incl. Katy '76 on Columbia; Walking On The Moon '87, Child Bride '89, The Greatest Show On Earth '93 all on Philo/Rounder; Indoor Fireworks '92, Hearts Gone Wild '95 and Midnight Radio '96 on Watermelon in USA.
