(b Charlotte Denise McClain, 25 March 1956, Jackson TN) Former model who made it to the top as a country singer early '80s. She began at nine in a band with her brother called Charlotte and the Volunteers; they worked local dates and had TV spots '64-70; she worked as a model, then changed her name to Charly and became a regular singer with the Mid-South Jamboree; she teamed with Memphis producer Larry Rogers and signed to Epic '76, had hits 'Lay Down' '76, 'Make The World Go Away' '77, 'That's What You Do To Me' '78, 'When A Love Ain't Right' '79, duet with Johnny Rodriguez 'I Hate The Way I Love It' '79, finally hit no. 1 on country charts with 'Surround Me With Love' and 'Men' '80, both produed by Norro Wilson. Voted Most Promising Female Vocalist by Music City News readers '80, dubbed 'Princess of Country Music'. Top three hits with 'Who's Cheatin' Who' '81, 'Sleepin' With The Radio On' '82, duet 'Paradise Tonight' '83 with Mickey Gilley. She married band member Wayne Massey '83; they had duet hit 'You Are My Music, You Are My Song' '85 and he guested on her albums, which were all on Epic.
