First job with Jazz Crusaders '54--60 (records on Pacific Jazz; later became Crusaders); recorded with Mongo Santamaria on Columbia '63, Sergio Mendes on Atlantic '65, also with James Moody on Cadet, with Lena Horne, Benny Golson, hit Quincy Jones LPs Body Heat, Walking In Space on A&M, many others; also Metropolitan Opera and NY Phil. orchestras '68--74, own Carnegie Hall concerts in '70s. Published Flute Improvisation (Hulaws Music). Own albums began on Atlantic with The Laws Of Jazz '64, quartet set with Chick Corea; Flute By-Laws '65 was a larger combo, still with Corea; then Afro-Classic '70 on CTI with Airto, Gene Bertoncini, Ron Carter, Fred Waits, others. The Rite Of Spring '71--2 with much the same gang incl. music of Bach, Ravel, Debussy, also on CTI; back to Atlantic for Wild Flower '72 with Airto, Corea, Santamaria, Carter, Gary Burton, three others. Then Morning Star '72 had a large orchestra dir. by Don Sobesky; Carnegie Hall '73 had combo similar to Afro- Classic; Then There Was Light '74 (aka In The Beginning) a 13- piece group incl. brother Ronnie (b 3 Oct. '50) on tenor; The Chicago Theme '75, The San Francisco Concert '75 large groups with strings, all on CTI. To Columbia for Say It With Silence '78, Family and How To Beat The High Cost Of Living '80, Make It Last and Romeo And Juliet, plus '85 LP with music by Telemann, Harold Blanchard, arr. of 'Amazing Grace' by Laws and Sobesky, synthesizer, strings etc cond. by Jones. Fusion Super Jam '81 had septet plus vocals by sister Eloise Laws made live at Aurex Jazz Festival for a Japanese label. My Time Will Come '93 (with Ronnie) and Storm Then The Calm '94 (with Eloise) appeared on MusicMasters. Ronnie Laws also sings; has played and recorded with Walter Bishop Jr, Earth Wind and Fire; own album Pressure Sensitive originally on Blue Note joined by others on EMI labels incl. Solid Ground '81, which he wrote and produced, featuring Hubert and Eloise. Ronnie's Mirror Town (with Debra and Eloise Laws) was on Columbia; Natural Laws on The Right Stuff.
