LORD, Bobby

(b 6 January 1934, Sanford FL; d 16 February 2008, Stuart FL) Country singer, songwriter, guitarist who had his own long-running syndicated American TV show in the 1960s. Musical career began as teenage jazz singer on Paul Whiteman's TV show; returned to Florida early '50s to study at Univerity of Tampa; hosted his own Bobby Lord Homefolks Show on local TV; later became cast member of Jubilee USA TV show in Springfield MO; signed to Columbia and charted with "Without Your Love' '56; joined Opry '60; moved through Hickory and Decca labels '60s-early '70s with several top 20 country hits; concentrated on his own Bobby Lord Show which featured Jerry Byrd's band and Marijohn Wilkin Singers '65-72. A practising Christian, he wrote book Hit The Glory Road '69; moved back to Florida mid-'70s where he was involved in real estate and insurance, still appeared regularly on Opry and TNN's Music City Tonight.
