KING, Morgana

(b 4 June 1930, Pleasantville, NY; d 22 March 2018, Palm Springs CA) Jazz-based pop singer who emerged as one of the guardians of the best American popular songs. She worked NYC clubs '56-60; albums included For You, For Me, Forever More '56 on Mercury (originally Sings For You on EmArcy); other albums on Camden '59, UA '61-2, I Know How It Feels '68 on Verve; A Taste Of Honey '64 on Mainstream charted as did New Beginnings '73 on Paramount.

Also an actress, she became more famous for films The Godfather '71 and Godfather II '74. But music was her home; she recorded with good combos for the Muse label, a steady string of albums including Stretchin' Out '77, Everything Must Change '78, Higher Ground '79, Looking Through The Eyes Of Love '81 (with the Composers String Quartet), Higher Ground '79, Portraits '83, Simply Eloquent '86, Another Time, Another Space '87, This Is Always '92.
