(b 9 April '53, Greenwich, NY) Singer, songwriter, guitarist and drummer. Played drums in New York R&B band at 15; worked as carpenter in Florida and played in blues band; moved to Gruene TX '81 and joined blossoming songwriting circuit; recorded self-financed Threadbare Alibis gig tape '87; appeared at Kerrville Festival '90 leading to contract with Curb that year; debut single 'Smalltown Saturday Night' a huge hit, helping sales of Past The Point Of Rescue '91, one of the finest country debuts; further lyrically perceptive hits followed incl. 'Sure Love' '92, 'Hearts Are Gonna Roll' '93, 'Stay Forever' '95; joined Grand Ole Opry '94. Other albums incl. Sure Love '92, Every Little Word '94, The Hits '96 all on Curb.
