KINCAID, Bradley

(b 13 July 1895, Granard County KY; d 23 Sep. '89) The Kentucky Mountain Boy with his Houn' Dog guitar was the most popular American folk singer of the '30s. Learned folk songs from his family; became regular on Chicago's WLS National Barn Dance while still in college; he published 13 songbooks (My Favorite Ballads, Old-Time Songs etc) '28-36. Recorded throughout '30s for Bluebird, Decca, Capitol, Polk; appeared all over USA teaching old songs to audiences. Joined Grand Ole Opry '44-9; bought radio station in Springfield OH '49; semi-retired '54 but came back '60s for several LPs of the old songs. LPs incl. five on Bluebonnet '63-8, Bradley Kincaid The Kentucky Mountain Boy '73 on McMonigle, anthology Mountain Ballads and Old-Time Songs on Old Homestead.
