KWESKIN, Jim

(b 18 July '40) Guitarist, singer, leader of Jim Kweskin Jug Band '60s. Raised in New England, worked in Cambridge MA area; formed band '63 with Geoff Muldaur, Bill Keith (formerly banjo with Bill Monroe), others; later Maria D'Amato (married Muldaur, later solo star), Richard Greene (formerly with Monroe, later Blues Project, Muldaur, etc), others. Played ragtime, bluesy goodtimey music which was an important component of the folk boom of the '60s. LPs on Vanguard incl. eponymous '63 debut, Jug Band Music '65, Relax Your Mind '66, See Reverse Side For Title '67; others on Reprise. Kweskin's later solo albums on Reprise; also Lives Again and Side By Side on Mountain Railroad.
