JENNINGS, Frank

(b 12 Feb. '44, Hammersmith, London) UK country singer with pronounced American style, with his band Syndicate became one of the most popular acts in UK country. Formed first group Country Syndicate in Reading '68, turned full-time pro '72, won TV's Opportunity Knocks and signed to EMI '75, recorded in Nashville '76-7. Of Anglo-Irish background, he blended Faron Young/ Mel Tillis sounds with his own, featuring steel guitarist Barry Smith (with him since '68), fiddle, keyboards and guitar. Hits incl. "Heaven Is My Woman's Love', "Me And My Guitar', "Woman In The Back Of My Mind'. Own TV series Ponderosa Country '79-80 on BBC South; appeared regularly on Pebble Mill At One, Crackerjack, BBC radio. LPs incl. Heaven Is My Woman's Love '76, Ponderosa Country '78, Me And My Guitar '79, Country Collection '80 (on Champ).
