INSECT TRUST, The

NYC pop group of late '60s. Lineup: Nancy Jeffries, piano and vocals; Bill Barth, guitar; Luke Faust, guitar, banjo, fiddle, harmonica; Trevor Koehler and Robert Palmer, reeds. Far too eclectic for chart action, they took in blues, psychedelia, jazz, jug band, other influences, made LPs The Insect Trust on Capitol late '60s, Hoboken Saturday Night '70 on Atco, now highly prized collector's items. Faust, Koehler, Barth also recorded with Octopus and Holy Modal Rounders. Palmer (b '45, d 20 Nov. '97 of liver failure; not to be confused with UK singer, same name) played clarinet on Ornette Coleman's Dancing In Your Head '73, became a highly regarded music journalist: books incl. Deep Blues '81, Rock And Roll: An Unruly History '95; biographies of Jerry Lee Lewis and Leiber & Stoller, countless features in periodicals.
