(b Elizabeth June Thornburg, 26 February 1921, Battle Creek MI; d 11 March 2007) Vocalist; the 'blonde bombshell' of movie musicals. With sister Marion (b 10 March 1919, Little Rock AR; d January 1987) worked for Vincent Lopez '38; Marion left to go with Glenn Miller; Betty remained a star in the Lopez band, landed spot in Two For The Show on Broadway '40, then Panama Hattie; lead in first film The Fleet's In '42; portrayed speakeasy queen Texas Guinnan in Incendiary Blonde '45; also Annie Get Your Gun '50, The Greatest Show On Earth '52, others. Five top 10 hits on Capitol '44-9 included no. 1 '45 'Doctor, Lawyer, Indian Chief.' later had TV series, appeared in London, etc. A much-loved star of the period for her strong personality as well as her voice and looks.
