HONEYS, The

Vocal trio formed c'66: Marilyn Wilson, Diane Rovell, Ginger Blake. Marilyn Rovell was engaged to Beach Boys' Brian Wilson; he produced singles for sisters and their cousin Blake; first two released '63, then a gap until '69. Switched from Capitol to UA for new attempt in '72; excellent LP under name of American Spring resulted. Trio had chose the name Spring, but in UK (where far more interest shown in LP than in USA) there was already a contemporary group with that name, so the adjective was added. Brian co- prod. this time with Stephen Desper and/or David Sandler. They also cut one single for CBS early '70s as Spring, but lack of success led to another hiatus until '82-3, when they regrouped as The Honeys, made superb album Ecstacy for Rhino. Marilyn and Brian by then estranged, the LP was prod. by session musician Louie Maxfield (under alias of Lou Natkin) and engineer Mark Avnet. Despite its quality, they still didn't chart.
