Teenage star on Bloomington TV; appeared on Grand Ole Opry at 17; signed to Decca '56 and had biggest hit: "Fraulein': no. 1 country, stayed a year in the chart; also top 40 pop; "My Special Angel' also no. 1 country, top 10 pop. Novelty "Jingle Bell Rock' also made pop top 10, all '57; "Jingle' re- charted each December '58, 60, 61, 62. Other hits incl. "Borrowed Dreams', "Jacqueline' '58, "New River Train' '59, "Lonely River Rhine' '60. Appeared on Ed Sullivan, Dick Clark, Country America, Jubilee USA TV shows.
