(b 26 Sep. '41, TX) Country singer. Began late '50s touring with brother Lefty (see below). Signed to Columbia '64, recorded country and rockabilly without much success; became part of Buck Owens empire in Bakersfield CA working in TV and touring with Owens. Country hits "L.A. International Airport' and "I Just Can't Help Believing' '70 on Columbia; joined Cartwheel label ("Goodbye' minor hit '71), ABC-Dot, then Capitol '73 (minor hit "Words Don't Come Easy'). Made demo with Shelly West (b 23 May '58, Nashville), daughter of Dottie West, of "You're The Reason God Made Oklahoma'; turned down by all the record companies, then used in Clint Eastwood film Every Which Way You Can '80, became no. 1 country hit. More duet hits incl. "Texas State Of Mind' '81; solo hits for David incl. "I'm Gonna Hire A Wino To Decorate Our Home' '82. Frizzel & West's Greatest Hits - Alone & Together on a K-Tel CD. Shelly was married to Alan, another Frizzell brother.
