USA semi-pro dixieland band based in L.A.; 12 12-inch LPs were released on the Good Time Jazz label recorded '49-'69 (some material issued earlier on 10-inch LPs), nine CDs available '97 included a 2-disc compilation. Trombonist Ward Kimball (d 8 July 2002 in Arcadia CA aged 88) was an animator at Disney studios; the band wore firemen's outfits and had an old-time fire wagon; they played at Disneyland. The earliest lineup had Danny Alguire, cornet; Clarke Mallory, clarinet; Frank Thomas, piano; Harper Goff, banjo; Ed Penner, bass and bass sax; Monty Mountjoy, drums. They were never world-beaters, but had a good time. The album Twenty Years Later '69 had Kimball, Alguire, Don Kinch, trumpet; K.O. Eckland, piano; Bill Newman, banjo; George Bruns, tuba; Eddie Forrest, drums; George Arthur Probert Jr on soprano sax (b 5 March '27, L.A.). (Probert played with Bob Scobey '52-3, Kid Ory '54; took job at Disney '55, moved to U.P.A. films '59 but played with Kimball and co. '55-71; formed own Once Or Twice Band '73, toured Europe mid-'70s.)
