FELLER, Dick

(b 2 Jan. '43, Bronaugh MO) Nashville-based songwriter, singer. Began performing with bands, writing songs late '50s; to Nashville '66, wrote songs without much success; worked in touring bands of Skeeter Davis, Warner Mack, Mel Tillis, Stu Phillips. Johnny Cash gave him writer's contract, recorded "Any Old Wind That Blows' (no. 1 country '72), others. Signed to United Artists, had own hits "Biff, The Friendly Purple Bear' '73, "Making The Best Of A Bad Situation' and "The Credit Card Song' '74, "Uncle Hiram And The Homemade Beer' '75 (on Asylum). Jerry Reed got a no. 1 with Feller's "Lord Mr Ford' '73, later signed him to writer's contract; Reed had hits with "East Bound And Down', "High Rollin'', "I'm Just A Redneck In A Rock And Roll Bar', "I Love You (What Can I Say)', all Feller songs. Due to regular tours Feller is popular in Europe. Own LPs incl. Wrote '73 on UA, No Word On Me '75 and Some Days Are Diamonds '76 on Asylum, Audiograph Live '83 on Audiograph.
