EVERETTE, Leon

(b Leon Everette Baughman, 21 June '48, Aiken SC) One of the most exciting live acts on the country circuit in the early '80s, Everette grew up in Queens NYC, worked for the South Carolina Power & Gas company for several years, turned to music full-time '76. Recorded for Doral and True labels, incl. Elvis tribute "Goodbye King Of Rock And Roll' '77. His manager formed Orlando Records specifically for Leon, and following a few minor hits he broke through with "Over' '80, leading to RCA picking up his contract and major hits with "Hurricane' '81, "Just Give Me What You Think Is Fair' '82, "I Could'a Had You' '84. Unhappy with RCA, he moved to Mercury, but the hits dried up and he reactivated Orlando '86. Now semi-retired, runs lace and craft shop with his wife in Ward SC. Albums incl. I Don't Want To Lose '80 on Orlando, Maverick '82 and Doin' What I Feel '84 on RCA, Where's The Fire? '85 on Mercury.
