DULFER, Candy

(b 19 Sep. '69, Amsterdam) Alto saxophone; her father Hans Dulfer a well-known saxophonist. Formed own band Funky Stuff at 15, by 18 was backing Madonna on Dutch dates. Later collaborated with Van Morrison, Prince, Dave Stewart. Her debut album Saxuality '91 on BMG sold a million worldwide, nom. for a Grammy; followup Sax-a-go-go '93 stuck to the hard-edged, soft-centred funk formula. She works in the time-honoured jump-band tradition of Louis Jordan but needs to let her hair down, especially on the air-brushed recordings.
