To mainland of Britain; appeared on BBC TV 6:5 Special '58; recorded for Decca, then Top Rank; "A Teenager In Love' (cover of Dion USA hit) was no. 13, "Only Sixteen' no. 1, both '59. (Latter song credited to Barbara Campbell, a pseudonyme for Sam Cooke, Lou Adler and Herb Alpert.) Five more top 40 hits before label went broke; "Our Favourite Melodies' top 10 on Columbia; back to Decca for "Oh Lonesome Me'; last hit "Town Cryer' '63: he was washed away by the Beatles, who'd once backed him on a live date. Occasional records since incl. vocal version of theme from popular TV series Tales Of The Unexpected.
